Family - Gobidae

Their small size often make this fish difficult to identify. This family contains about 1800 species, about 400 of these are in Australia, most of which are marine with only 6 tropical Australian species restricted to freshwaters.

Description: Can reach up to 30 cm.

Distribution: Is mainly established in the marine waters of Sydney Harbour and Botany Bay, however has been recorded in freshwater reaches of the Hawkesbury River, New South Wales.

Natural History: This species is native to inland waters of Asia, the pacific north west and the Pacific western central regions. It was first accidentally introduced into Australia around 1971 from Japan.
