Getting to Canberra

As Australia’s national capital, Canberra is the meeting place of our nation and home to many of Australia’s national treasures. It is also home to a range of diverse attractions, world-renowned institutions and a thriving government and corporate sector. The attractions in Canberra tell the story of Australia – from our earliest inhabitants through to today.

Qantas and Virgin Blue have regular flights into Canberra from most major centres every day.  Limited International flights also land on a regular basis, however most flights will transit either Sydney or Melbourne.

If you’re traveling from Sydney, you can also catch a train or enjoy the 3 hour drive along the Hume Highway.

Once in Canberra, taxi is the easiest way to get around. There are two taxi companies operating in Canberra – Canberra Cabs (13 22 27) and Cab Express (6260 6011) Credit cards and EFTPOS are accepted by both companies.

NOTE: Canberra cabs will not pick up off the street. You must be at a taxi rank or have made a telephone booking.

Canberra has four distinct seasons, September being early Spring, the weather can be unpredictable. We experience mainly fresh cool yet sunny days with an average daytime temperature of 19 degrees. However sometimes the temperature can climb up to 30 degrees Celsuis, therefore adequate clothing for all seasons is advisable.
