Workshop Aims
1. Provide an overview of current policy direction, management strategies and research programmes for each jurisdiction (state, territory, federal, New Zealand, USA).
2. Understand and develop the partnership between recreational fisheries management and research.
3. Discuss existing and novel approaches for assessing recreational fisheries.
4. Provide a forum for stakeholders to present their vision on what sustainable recreational fisheries should look like in 20 years.
Who would benefit from attending the workshop?
- Anyone with an interest in the sustainable development of recreational fisheries in Australia.
- Fisheries managers – be involved in a discussion of various management strategies and their strengths and weaknesses.
- Researchers – be involved in a discussion of the relative merits of the assessment methods that are vital for determining the status of recreational fisheries and plan for future research needs.
- Stakeholder/industry groups - articulate your views on research provided for issues within recreational fishing, consider the views of other stakeholders and discuss management and research options for the future.
