David Schoeman

Dave is a quantitative marine ecologist who specialises in climate-change ecology and marine conservation planning. Having worked professionally as a marine ecologist in South Africa, the United Kingdom and Australia, he has diverse interests that revolve around observed and projected ecological responses to anthropogenic impacts in coastal and oceanic waters. As a key member of a variety of collaborative international research networks, Dave has delivered outputs ranging from high-impact global analyses and syntheses, including papers in Science, Nature, Nature Climate Change, PNAS, and Trends in Ecology and Evolution, to serving as a Coordinating Lead Author and Review Editor on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Sixth Assessment Report. He is currently working on advancing the science associated with climate-smart conservation planning for the global ocean. Dave also excels in the leadership of learning and teaching, recently being awarded the University of the Sunshine Coast Vice Chancellor and President’s Award for Excellence in Learning and Teaching for his leadership in the development, accreditation and delivery of Australia’s first Bachelor of Animal Ecology Degree Program.
